Stock Market Headlines

Stocks finished slightly lower today with each major index still close to its all-time highs. The Dow (DJIA) is within 100 points of its highest level ever in the history of the Dow. The S&P 500 ended the day at 1514.68, while the Nasdaq closed at 3160.19.

As reported by CNBC, “Stocks reversed their earlier gains in the final minutes of trading to close lower on the final trading day of February, but all major averages still finished higher for the month. The S&P 500 logged its fourth-straight month in positive territory”.

Declining stocks (1,462) were less than advances (1,524) on the NYSE, while the Nasdaq had 1,273 decliners versus 1,188 advances.

  • China HGS Real Estate (HGSH), a major real estate company in China, announced that it had been approved to receive an additional 23,500 square meters of land use right. The stock soared 25.43%.

  • BroadSoft stock (BSFT), dropped -32.06% today, making it the biggest stock loser across the NYSE and Nasdaq. The firm announced an unexpectedly weak 2013 revenue outlook, which caused investors to dump the company's stock.
  • Shares of Procera Networks (PKT) were the next biggest loser, declining -30.26% to close the day at $11.70. Investors scrambled to sell the company's stock after the firm's management reported Q4 figures that missed Wall Street's estimates.
