Stock Market Headlines
Stocks ended mixed today with the Dow (DJIA) and S&P closing at 5 year highs. The DJIA was up 47.46 points ending the day above 14,000. The S&P closed at 1519.43, its highest level since 2008. Since the beginning of the year, the Dow has gained over 7%.
Advancing stocks (1,928) outpaced Declines (1,058) on the NYSE, while the Nasdaq had 1,494 Advances versus 970 Declines.
- Shares of Old Second Bancorp (OSBC), a bank holding company, were the highest gainer across the NYSE and Nasdaq today. The stock ended the day at $3.14, a 25.1% gain from the previous day’s close. Today, the firm filed an Amended Statement of Ownership (SC 13G/A) with the SEC.
- Avon Products (AVP) was the next highest gainer across the NYSE and Nasdaq. The company announced better than expect Q4 results. The firm’s stock price soared to close the day at $20.79, a 20.31% surge. Avon is currently undergoing a $400 million cost reduction program.
- KVH Industries’s stock, KVHI, dropped -14.09% today, making it the biggest loser across the NYSE and Nasdaq. The firm reported improved earnings that beat stock analysts’ estimates, but Wall Street was not impressed.
- Level 3 communications (LVLT)’s stock was the next biggest loser. Shares of the company declined -13.58% to close the day at $21.31, after the company reported earnings.
