Launched in 2009, Thumbtack.com is an internet marketplace that enables service providers and consumers to find one another. Similar in nature to popular "Angies List", Thumbtack was founded by Marco Zappacosta, Jonathan Swanson and Sander Daniels.

The site which started with 50,000 service providers has now grown to more than 240,000 service providers looking to hire local talent.

In 2010, the company raised $1.2 million from Angel Investors with help from popular investors like Scott Banister, Joshua Schachter and Jason Calacan. In 2012, Thumbtack raised an additional $4.5 million via a Series A round led by Javelin Venture Partners, MHS Capital and individual investor Timothy Draper.

The company aims to make local job hiring just as easy as buying products from eBay. With its simple user interface, it has drawn a large number of users. The company now lists hundreds of thousands of members, ranging from carpenters to consultants who sign up in the hopes of finding local employment.
