Stock Market Headlines
Just like they did yesterday, stocks ended mixed today with the Dow (DJIA) and S&P closing slightly below their 5 year highs. The DJIA was down 35.79 points ending the day at 13,982. Since the beginning of the year, the Dow has gained over 7%. The S&P was essentially unchanged, closing the day at 1520. The Nasdaq was up 10.38 points.
Declining stocks (1,242) were less than Advances (1,770) on the NYSE, while the Nasdaq had 1,118 Decliners versus 1,322 Advances.
Most Active Stocks – Top Gainers by Percentage (NYSE & NASDAQ)
- Proto Labs (PRLB)’s stock was the highest gainer across the NYSE and Nasdaq. PRLB reported earnings that topped Wall Street analysts’ estimates.
- Prima Biomed (PBMD) was the next highest gainer across the NYSE and Nasdaq. Yesterday, the firm’s Chief Executive Officer, Matthew Lehman presented an overview of the company’s activities at the 15th Annual BIO CEO & Investor Conference in New York.
Most Active Stocks – Top Losers by Percentage (NYSE & NASDAQ)
- EZchip Semiconductor’s stock, EZCH, dropped -20.72% today, making it the biggest loser across the NYSE and Nasdaq. EZchip, a fabless semiconductor company that provides Ethernet network processors, reported an upbeat Q4 and full year earnings. Stock analysts were, however, disappointed with the firm's guidance.
- Cliffs Natural Resources' stock was the next biggest loser, declining -19.99% to close the day at $29.29. CLF announced earnings yesterday that disappointed Wall Street.
