  • Shares of Medical Action, a manufacturer of surgical-related products, were the highest gainer across the NYSE and Nasdaq today. The firm reported 3rd quarter (fiscal 2013) revenue results that surpassed Wall Street's expectations. Stock analysts were expecting 5 cents a share, but Medical Action reported ten cents a share. For the nine months ended December 31, 2012, the Company reported net sales of $333.7 million and gross profit of $53.5 million.

  • SunPower stock (SPWR) was the next highest gainer across the NYSE and Nasdaq. By the end of trading, the stock price had soared 19% to close at $9.44. The rise in the stock was due to numerous reports showing that the solar energy industry as a whole was set to soar. Credit Suisse‘s analyst Satya Kumar published a report arguing that prices for polysilicon (used to build solar panels) were “at a trough". The Financial Times also reported that the industry may be close to creating bonds that cluster small installations into securities and generate cash flow from the electricity generated.
